Forgoing What is Traditional for What Feels Right
Throughout the year, I have the opportunity to photograph individuals and families for a wide variety of occasions. During each session I try to go a little beyond the boundaries of what is expected and explore new and exciting ideas. This year for the holiday season, I decided to forgo traditional Christmas photos that consisted of bright red and green colors accompanied by snow or silent backgrounds for a style that felt right.
Jessika contacted me to take her Christmas photos and instantly my brain ran wild with ideas for her session! I always strive to do things that are a bit less traditional and thinking outside of the box. This year it was like my ideas were on fire, looking for every chance they could to spread.
In place of traditional Christmas attire for Jessika's session, I suggested that we play on winter white. We went with a completely neutral color palette that I knew would stand out during this time of year in Texas. My goal was to offer Jessika and her family not only Christmas photos they could put on memorable cards and send to their loved ones but also give them photos that would outlive the holiday season.
Like Jessika, many of my clients contact me at specific times of the year to book photo sessions. It helps for me to know a little bit about them before the session because I can create photos that merge my photography style with their style or the style they have in their homes. Jessika has great taste and I knew that a neutral clothing palette would be more functional in her home while being stunning no matter how she used them.
When it comes to having a choice between what is traditional and what simply feels right, you can find me following my gut almost every time!
