PERSONAL PROJECT | CANYON, TEXAS | TEALA WARD PHOTOGRAPHY

I am a creative being. I crave innovation and discovery when it comes to my photography style and portfolio. As such, sometimes in order to create new and inventive things, I create personal projects for myself. These projects create a pressure free environment that I get to explore different angles and settings without limitations.

Often times, I shoot these creative projects in new locations that have unrealized potential or that may have features unsuitable for some of my other sessions. I like to dress models in outfits that I have been yearning to photograph. These could include vintage attire or clothing with patterns or materials that are unique. Once the session begins, I allow myself to take weird photos at obscure angles without wondering if a client will "get it." These photos let me explore my creative capacities and often times reveals a whole new realm of possibilities for my photography style.

Beth is a yoga instructor and we had a theme for this photo session together. We spent the evening trying to portray the juxtaposing roles that women play. We explored the sensual and rigid sides of womanhood by moving in different ways and exploring how those movements were captured in a photograph. There are things about all of us that are sweet AND spicy. Complete AND broken. We wanted to encourage self discovery through these photos and recognize that getting to know yourself fully takes a certain level of comfort. Being comfortable with everything from the way you look to the traits you poses isn't always easy, in fact it can be hard and grueling at times, but I promise it is so worthy of exploration.
