What to wear to your photo session | Amarillo Photographer - Teala Ward Photography
Sometimes choosing what to wear to your session can be extremely daunting. It doesn't have to be though. As an Amarillo Photographer I want to help make your session as stress free and fun as possible. Below you will find some tips to help you dress your best. From good colors, ways to wear your clothing, and places to shop I hope you will find some tips and tricks.

Steer clear of Flourescents. Fluorescent colors tend to color cast on faces, necks and hair. They’re harsh, especially in sunlight and show up wonky on camera. If you like brighter colors, I recommend primary colors. Mustard yellow is gorgeous paired with other colors. Red is striking on camera especially if you choose a fabulous dress. Navy pairs well with lots of other colors. Black. Black photographs beautifully and is a favorite espescially for a base color.
Try to steer away from green clothing when having photos taken in grassy/wooded areas. It will make you blend in with your surroundings and you want to stand out. Green as an accent color is great, though!

To get the flow going with wardrobe, start with one outfit that you really like (Usually mom’s oufit for family pictures works well or one of the littles). From there, build from it for everyone else.

Layer up! Not only do layers add depth they also serve a great purpose. Sometimes the weather can change at the last second. Be sure to plan far enough in advance (which also means book your session early enough to give you time to shop) and be looking at the weather. Don’t just layer with clothing though be sure to use accessories too! In the summer? Layer your dress with a cute belt and pendant necklace. In the fall and winter? cardigans, belts, statement necklaces, scarves, hats, blazers, etc. Accessories also serve as a piece of your story and will allow me to make your photo gallery more interesting.

Matchy matchy is out. Coordinating is in. So you have your family all together but no need to all wear the SAME oufit. I mean yes you are important to each other but you are all individuals with unique personalities. Your ourfits should reflect tthat! When everyone is dressed just alike it comes off a bit awkward. Using colors to cordinate is wonderful but make sure to mix it up a bit. A good way is to mix patterns and solids to achive a coordinated look. Start by choosing two main colors of wardrobe, and maybe one accent pop of color. Also, mixing stripes with plaids and tweeds is okay! (even plaid and plaid is ok if you do it correctly) When in doubt ask your photographer. Text a photo of your outfits all together and ask if it works! My job is to help you look your best!
